Testimonials

As a dog trainer, I knew the importance of exercising an energetic dog, such as Boo.  I met Samara and Josh when they brought their own dog to one of my classes at Training Spot to brush up on their training.  When I heard about their business, I thought it would be so helpful for several of my clients.  Exercise goes hand in hand with a well-mannered dog.  I tried out their services with my own dog Boo and LOVED IT!  Boo now runs with both Samara and Josh every week.  Boo is so excited to see them and he comes back from his runs with much less crazy energy, and he’s more in shape.  I tell my friends and clients to call them ASAP!

The biggest benefit for me with this service is I trust Josh and Samara to keep my dog safe and use the same training techniques that I do.  They are so conscientious about how they treat Boo and it shows the moment he sees them.  They both have excellent dog handling skills and I feel confident recommending them to my clients, friends and family.

“We are very busy.  My husband is out of town during the week for work and my own work demands much of my time.  We make sure to take our dogs out on walks and bike rides everyday, but we were interested in getting help with the exercising of our dogs when we couldn’t.   Chrome’s fitness was always good, so we just needed the extra help when we were busy, and he always came back happy and tired from his outings.  Our other dog, Ona, had okay fitness so ORR started out slower with her and steadily increased the level of exercise as she got in better shape.  Her fitness has steadily improved: she’s lost some weight and gained some good muscle.  Both dogs love them, and get excited and can’t wait to go on a run.  Samara and Josh are amazing.  They are great handlers and honestly love the dogs and what they do.”

“I recently started having Oregon Ruff Runners take my terrier mix, Sadie, for a weekly run, sometimes two times per week, since I wasn’t able to get her out as much as I would like to, and it’s one of the best things I have done for her.  Josh came to my home and though Sadie immediately liked him (she’s a rescue & can be pretty timid) she was apprehensive about leaving with him for their meet-&-greet but she was so happy and tired when they got back that I knew I had to continue this for her.

Now, all I have to do is tell her Josh is coming; she knows exactly what that means and she gets all excited and can’t wait for her run.  She’s improved her overall strength, her nails don’t need clipped and she’s just all around happier.  I also thinks she’s better at listening and obeying so having someone that knows what they’re doing is extremely helpful as well.  He’s obviously helping her leash skills which is an added bonus for sure!  She also gets to socialize with other dogs which is so important.

I can’t say enough good things about Josh, he’s flexible, a great guy, and if I trust him with my Sadie – I’m trusting him with my life!  And that’s saying a lot because I’m not that trusting, especially with my baby.  I wish I could provide Sadie with daily exercise, but I just can’t so it’s awesome knowing that Josh can take her out for a run and provide her with that boost when I can’t.  I think Sadie enjoys the variety, runs with Josh, trips to the river or walks with mom so it’s a great balance.  Running Sadie with Oregon Ruff Runners, it helps both of us as I don’t have to feel guilty for working and she gets to make new friends.

I highly recommend Josh & Oregon Ruff Runners!  What are you waiting for?  Your dog deserves it and so do you!!

Finn was born with a genetic condition that resulted in early onset arthritis in his elbows. Post-surgery, exercise has been critical, not just to his rehabilitation, but to strengthen the muscles in his front legs. I have very much appreciated ORR’s sensitivity and understanding in this situation, as Finn’s youthful exuberance has to be monitored to ensure that he doesn’t over-do, and wind up in pain. ORR has been very attentive to the situation!

Finn has been running with Oregon Ruff Runners since June, and every time he hear’s Josh’s car arrive he gets so excited!  His tail wags and he begins yipping and bouncing around in anticipation of his run with Josh.  Needless to say, he loves running with ORR, but more importantly, his leg strength has increased, and he’s become less reactive on the leash.  Because Finn has been going out with a canine running buddy, he is less likely to lunge, buck, or snort at other dogs.  His reactivity is a more sporadic event than prior to his outings with ORR, which makes our walks so much more enjoyable.  If you’re considering hiring Oregon Ruff Runners, Just Do It!  Do your dog a favor and show them how much they mean to you!

“I knew I needed to exercise my dog, Elsa.  She is still young and is pretty excitable and full of energy.  I wasn’t able to run with her myself, so I called when I saw Oregon Ruff Runners’ ad on Facebook, hoping to increase the amount of activity she received during the week.

Since starting her runs, Elsa has been doing much better.  After each run, her energy level is lower for the next couple days, and, overall, she’s less excitable around noises and activity while we are out-and-about.  And, Elsa loves her outings!  She’s super excited when Samara arrives, and equally sad to see her leave after their outing together.”

“I reached out to Oregon Ruff Runners while seeking new exercise and stimulation activities for my young dog, Winston.  Winston appeared to be suffering from problems related to boredom and lack of exercise, especially worrisome was when he began chewing and eating rocks and wood.

Since joining Oregon Ruff Runners, Winston’s negative behaviors have reduced dramatically.  He seems both happier and more relaxed now.  Between running with Josh and other strategies we’ve employed, Winston’s tendencies to eat rocks and wood have been eliminated.  Surprisingly, when we asked Josh to take our older, more mellow girl along, she kept up and loved her outings just as much as Winston!  Its obvious how much both of them enjoy Josh and their outings with him.  I love how my dogs have this new experience and I feel great knowing both Winston and Nika are having fun and getting exercised even when we can’t be there.

“This is the best choice you can make for your fur baby!

Our big dog, Titus, was in need of more stimulation and exercise than we were able to provide.  We were getting pretty frustrated since Titus was constantly getting into things, like the trash, and on the counters when we were gone.  Also, he’s a pretty nervous dog in general, but he’s especially skittish out on walks.  Finally, he’d packed on 15 lbs in a year.

Now, Titus gets super excited when we tell him Samara is coming, and even more excited when he sees her!  That said, Titus returns home tired from his runs and seems calmer and less nervous.  He’s also stopped getting himself into trouble around the house.  In fact, when we had to cut down on his runs for a few weeks, we started to see those behaviors start to come back, but they faded again when we started him back on his runs!  His weight has decreased and his anxiety has dramatically decreased while out of the house.”

“We absolutely LOVE Oregon Ruff Runners. It’s a win/win for both humans and dog in our house as Mo gets awesome exercise and we can get a little relief in our schedule. Our busy lives were making Mojo sad (and out of shape) and us filled with guilt. Not everyone can handle Mojo, as he’s a big guy. It makes us feel SO reassured to have Josh running with him- Mo loves him and Josh is super confident in handling him- great combo. Now Mo is back in shape and getting regular exercise- even when we have crazy schedules. Thanks, Sam and Josh, for taking such good care of Mojo and being so accommodating! You’re the best!!!”

“I was looking to get my dog, Agatha, some more midweek exercise.  She is super high energy and we usually get her out on the weekend, but by midweek she has built up some more energy.  Agatha has always been fast and fun to be out with, but she’s never run on-leash with someone since no one in my family is a runner.  I like the one-on-one attention she gets with Oregon Ruff Runners and the focused exercise.  Samara always sends me maps and pictures from her outings with Agatha, which I appreciate.  Agatha seems excited to go on her runs and it really tires her out on those days and she seems less antsy.  She seems super happy after her runs with ORR.”

“I originally reached out to Oregon Ruff Runners to help exercise my dog Obie while I was pregnant and after the birth of our baby.  To be honest I thought we might just use ORR for a short time while I was pregnant and after the delivery of our baby but after I met Josh and saw how much Obie loves him I knew they would have a customer for life.

Before booking runs with ORR, Obie was moderately exercised but as a large breed, working dog he needed more. Behaviorally he pulled a bit on the leash, had some separation anxiety, was frightened of and leash reactive with other dogs.  Now though, Obie pulls less on our walks, has learned several useful commands (we did the additional brain games package in addition to the running) and is less reactive while on walks. As a rescue dog he has had some mild separation anxiety and seems to be more social and confident since going out with Josh.  After each run Obie is happy for the entire day. Overall he seems more calm and peaceful after a run with Josh. Also, he has lost 3 pounds!

One of my favorite things is when Obie sees Josh’s car pull up he starts slowly wagging his tail and does a few of what we call “baby deer jumps”, it’s really sweet. I like to watch them run off together,  Obie will look back to me just to double check everything’s ok and then confidently turn to run again. It is really nice to see him be excited and not so worried about leaving my side.

I am so happy we found Oregon Ruff Runners!  They are flexible, affordable, up-to-date on training techniques, truly care about each dog’s well being and care for the betterment of Eugene’s dog community as a whole. Their newsletters and tips are fantastic and entertaining!  I would highly recommend Oregon Ruff Runners!”
